NXJG Wedge Type Insulated Strain Clamp

NXJG Wedge-Type Insulated Strain Clamp

Product Overview

The NXJG Wedge Type Insulated Strain Clamp is a specialized strain clamp designed for wedge-type dead-end clamping of insulated conductors on medium-voltage overhead distribution lines. Widely recognized in the industry under alternative names including wedge-type insulated strain clamp, dead-end wedge clamp, this product serves as a critical component in 10 kV insulated overhead lines systems. NXJG wedge-type insulated strain clamp is suitable for terminating or tensioning overhead insulated aluminum core wires (JKLYJ) at both ends of strain sections up to 10kV, together with insulator strings, to fix and tension overhead insulated wires. The product is equipped with different plastic wedge cores according to wire specifications.

Advantages

  • “Wedge grip mechanism” — self-adjusting wedge core distributes clamping force uniformly, providing reliable conductor retention
  • “Insulation-preserved clamping” — grips through the insulation layer without stripping, maintaining dielectric integrity
  • “Corona-resistant design” — smooth aluminum body profile minimizes electric field concentration and corona discharge
  • “Wide temperature range” — nylon and composite wedge components maintain grip performance from -40°C to +80°C
  • “Tool-free wedge insertion” — simply push conductor and wedge into the clamp body for fast, secure installation

Material & Manufacturing

  • Material: high-strength cast aluminum alloy
  • Secondary components: reinforced nylon or composite wedge core
  • Surface treatment: Hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with ISO 1461 / ASTM A153 / IEC 61589, minimum zinc coating thickness 65 μm
  • Manufacturing process: Precision forging, casting, or CNC machining of critical dimensions, followed by full galvanizing immersion. Dimensional accuracy controlled within ±0.5 mm tolerance on mounting interfaces
  • Quality assurance: Every batch undergoes dimensional inspection, galvanizing thickness testing (magnetic or gravimetric method per ISO 2178), and visual surface examination. Mill test certificates (MTC) available upon request

Application Scope

  • Wedge-type dead-end clamping of insulated conductors on medium-voltage overhead distribution lines
  • 10 kV medium-voltage insulated overhead line terminals and dead-end points
  • Urban compact distribution networks using covered conductors
  • Transition points between bare and insulated conductor sections

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can NXJG clamps be used on 1 kV lines? A: NXJG series is rated for 10 kV systems. For 1 kV bundled conductors, NXJ series is the recommended choice.

Q: What insulation thickness is supported? A: NXJG clamps accommodate standard XLPE or PVC insulation thicknesses up to 4 mm. Verify compatibility for non-standard insulation.

Q: Is the wedge direction-specific? A: Yes — the wedge must be inserted in the correct orientation as marked on the clamp body. Incorrect installation reduces grip force.
